They realize the Rewop Thing communicates through light patterns and symbol sequences. Eleanor's intuition and Sarah's logic begin to decipher its 'language'.
The attic dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight that pierced the gloom, each a tiny, ephemeral star. Eleanor, her brow furrowed in concentration, held the Rewop Thing aloft. It pulsed with a soft, internal luminescence, a gentle heartbeat against the stillness. Sarah, perched on an overturned crate, chewed on the end of a stray hair, her eyes, usually alight with the sharp gleam of adolescent mischief, were narrowed in thought. The silence stretched, thick with unspoken questions and the faint, metallic tang that always seemed to accompany the artifact.
"It’s not just glowing, Mom," Sarah finally said, her voice hushed, as if to disturb the delicate balance of their contemplation. "Look. There are patterns. Like… like Morse code, but with colors."
Eleanor tilted her head, her gaze following Sarah’s pointed finger. Indeed, faint, intricate sequences of light flickered across the Rewop Thing’s surface. They weren’t random flashes, but deliberate, pulsing sequences, shifting from a soft amber to a cool sapphire, then to a vibrant emerald. Interspersed with these chromatic pulses were the familiar, enigmatic symbols that adorned its casing.
