Trial by Fire
An activation lands them in a dangerous historical predicament. They must rely on each other's strengths and quick thinking to survive and return home safely.
The air in the attic, usually thick with the scent of dust and forgotten things, crackled with an unnatural energy. Eleanor, ever the pragmatist, had been attempting to clear out a particularly stubborn cobweb that clung to the rafters like a shroud. Sarah, perched precariously on an overturned crate, was idly tracing the intricate symbols on the Rewop Thing with a fingertip. It pulsed with a soft, internal light, a gentle thrumming that had become a familiar, if unsettling, presence in their lives.
“Honestly, Mom,” Sarah sighed, her voice echoing slightly in the confined space, “this place is a fire hazard waiting to happen. We should just burn it all down and start over.”
Eleanor grunted, wrestling with the web. “And where would we live, Sarah? In a cardboard box? Besides, some of these things might be valuable. Or at least… interesting.” She shot a pointed glance at the Rewop Thing, its glow intensifying as if in agreement.
