Chapter 20
More Than Ordinary
Life returns to a semblance of normal, but Sarah and Eleanor are forever changed. Their bond is unbreakable, and they embrace the extraordinary in their everyday lives.
The silence in the house had a different quality now. It wasn't the strained hush of unspoken anxieties or the lonely quiet of two people adrift, but a comfortable, shared stillness. Sunlight, once a mere interruption to the gloom of their attic-bound adventures, now streamed through the windows with a cheerful insistence, illuminating dust motes dancing like tiny, forgotten stars. Sarah sat at the kitchen table, a half-eaten bowl of cereal growing soggy before her, her gaze drifting to the faint, almost imperceptible hum that seemed to emanate from the very fabric of their home. It was the echo of the Rewop Thing, a phantom vibration in the air, a reminder of the extraordinary that had crashed into their ordinary lives and irrevocably altered its course.
Eleanor, her mother, bustled about, the clatter of pots and pans a familiar, grounding sound. Yet, even in her pragmatic routine, a new lightness had settled upon her shoulders. The perpetual worry lines around her eyes seemed softer, the frantic energy that sometimes propelled her replaced by a steady, confident grace. She caught Sarah’s thoughtful gaze and offered a gentle smile. “Penny for your thoughts, kiddo?”
Sarah blinked, pulling herself back from the precipice of contemplation. “Just… thinking,” she admitted, a small smile playing on her lips. “About how weird it is that everything feels… normal again.”
