Agnes's Grand De-Cluttering

Agnes, disturbed by Barty's hand and Penelope's 'whispers', attempts to 'organize' the therapy room. This escalates into an obsessive cleaning frenzy, much to everyone's dismay.

The air in Dr. Sharma’s therapy room, usually a gentle hum of contained anxieties and nascent hope, felt particularly thick this Tuesday. Agnes Periwinkle, a woman whose every breath seemed calibrated for maximum efficiency, was vibrating with a disquiet that went beyond mere discomfort. It was a tremor, a seismic shift in her carefully constructed universe, and its epicentre, she was convinced, lay squarely within the four walls of this room.

Bartholomew Bumble sat slumped in his usual armchair, his right hand resting, or rather, *lurking*, on the armrest. Today, the hand seemed particularly pleased with itself, twitching with a mischievous glee that Agnes found utterly repellent. It resembled a particularly insolent spider, poised to pounce on any stray dust mote or misplaced cushion. And then there was Penelope Pumpernickel, perched precariously on the edge of her seat, her latest hat – a magnificent confection of peacock feathers and a miniature, slightly lopsided, porcelain teacup – bobbing with her every utterance. Penelope, Agnes had observed with growing alarm, was engaged in a hushed, one-sided conversation with the very air molecules around Barty’s errant appendage.

“It’s telling me things, Agnes,” Penelope had whispered earlier, her eyes wide and earnest, fixed on Barty’s hand. “Such stories! Of escape, of… liberation! It yearns for the outside, you see. For adventure.”
