The air in the sorcerer’s obsidian tower was thick with the scent of brimstone and forgotten spells. Twisted, skeletal fingers, adorned with rings that pulsed with a sickly green light, traced patterns on a scrying pool that shimmered with an unnatural luminescence. Lord Malakor, a name whispered only in fear and hushed tones, scowled as he surveyed the murky depths. For weeks, his efforts had been focused on the whispers carried on the wind, tales of a peculiar light blooming in a forgotten village, a light he could feel, a nascent power begging to be unleashed.

He had sent his shadows, his ethereal spies, to watch, to listen, to feel the pulse of this burgeoning magic. They were clumsy, these lesser beings, easily distracted by the mundane. But one, a wraith born of pure malice, had finally returned with a whisper of truth, a flicker of what Malakor sought. It spoke of a maiden, Florinda, a name that tasted like honey on his tongue, a vessel of unimaginable potential. He saw her then, not in the scrying pool, but in the swirling mists of his mind’s eye: a young woman with eyes like the summer sky, a gentle spirit, yet beneath the surface, a tempest of untapped energy.

A cruel smile stretched Malakor’s thin lips, revealing teeth like shards of obsidian. This Florinda was the key, the very lock he needed to break open the vault of ultimate power. Her magic, dormant and pure, would be the fuel for his grand ambitions, the spark that would ignite the inferno of his reign. But something else caught his attention, a secondary shimmer in the wraith’s report. A man, a traveler, with a noble bearing that belied his simple attire. Lysander, they called him. The wraith had sensed a faint aura about him, a silver thread of power, not as potent as Florinda’s, but present nonetheless.
