The air in Mr. Henderson’s office, usually thick with the scent of stale coffee and desperation, felt different today. It was charged, not with electricity, but with the brittle tension of something about to shatter. Anya sat at her desk, the same desk she’d occupied for three years, the same beige filing cabinet humming its monotonous tune beside her. The papers before her, reports on quarterly sales figures and inventory discrepancies, blurred into meaningless patterns. Her fingers, usually nimble, felt clumsy, as if they belonged to someone else.

She looked around the room, at the framed, generic landscape print on the wall, at the wilting potted plant Mr. Henderson insisted on keeping, a silent testament to neglect. It was all so… grey. The grey of Tuesday, indeed. But this Tuesday was different. This Tuesday was the cusp of something else entirely.

Her gaze drifted to the window, to the sliver of sky visible between the towering office buildings. It was a pale, washed-out blue, a far cry from the deep, bruised twilight she’d shared with Elias. Elias. The name itself was a soft melody on her tongue, a secret whispered in the quiet corners of her heart. He had become the sun around which her world now orbited, the vibrant colour that had bled into the monochrome of her existence.
