Chapter 17
Mihail's Choice
Torn between duty and love, Mihail faces an impossible choice. The fate of his kingdom rests on his willingness to embrace his destiny.
The air in the royal chambers hung heavy, thick with the scent of old parchment and the unspoken anxieties that clung to the very stones of the castle. Outside, the perpetual twilight of Wallachia bled across the sky, a bruised, unending canvas that mirrored the ache in my chest. The renewed incursions from the northern wastes, the chilling whispers of the Ghoulkin stirring from their slumber – each report was a fresh wound to a kingdom already bleeding. And I, Mihail, Prince of Wallachia, heir to this obsidian throne, felt the weight of it all pressing down, a suffocating shroud.

It was a magic I should have feared, a magic that the kingdom deemed anathema, yet it was a magic that drew me like a moth to a flame.
“The scouts report significant Ghoulkin activity near the Serpent’s Pass,” my father’s voice, rough as worn leather, broke the silence. He tapped a gnarled finger on the map, tracing a path that led only to further bloodshed. “They are bolder this time, Mihail. More organized.”
