“You shouldn’t be here, Mihail,” she whispered, her voice a silken thread woven with concern. Her eyes, the color of a storm-tossed sea, searched mine, a perpetual question held within their depths.
I reached for her, my fingers tracing the delicate curve of her cheekbone, a touch that sent a tremor through my very being. “And yet, here I am. Is there any other place I would rather be?” My own voice was a low rumble, a stark contrast to the fragile peace of our sanctuary. Duty, a relentless beast, clawed at my insides, reminding me of the obsidian throne that awaited, of the fractured kingdom I was destined to rule. But in these stolen moments, with Marishka’s warmth against my skin, the weight of it all seemed to recede, a distant echo in the face of her immediate, vibrant presence.
