Her parents, their faces etched with a mixture of relief and stern resolve, had declared it was for her own good. “Focus, Addie,” her father had said, his voice resonating with a finality that left no room for argument. “These grades need your full attention. Music can wait.” But Addie knew, with a certainty that settled deep in her bones, that music wouldn’t wait. It pulsed within her, a vibrant current that refused to be dammed.
Nights became her sanctuary. When the house settled into its slumber, a soft hush falling over the floorboards and the ticking of the grandfather clock in the hall, Addie would stir. The moonlight, a pale, forgiving visitor, would spill through her window, painting silver streaks across her quilt.
