The scent of pine and old paper filled the air of Aunt Clara’s study, a room Addie had always found comforting. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the quiet space. Aunt Clara sat at her desk, a half-finished knitting project resting beside a stack of carefully curated brochures. Addie, clutching her acceptance letter from the prestigious arts school, felt a flutter of apprehension mixed with the lingering euphoria of her success.

“It’s all so… real now, Aunt Clara,” Addie whispered, tracing the embossed lettering on the school’s insignia. “Leaving home, starting all over.”

Aunt Clara’s eyes, crinkling at the corners, met hers. “And it’s a wonderful real, my dear. A real you’ve earned with every note you’ve sung, every melody you’ve coaxed from your flute.” She reached out, her hand warm and steady as it rested on Addie’s. “Your parents… they’re coming around, aren’t they?”
