Chapter 20
A New Beginning's Overture
Addie prepares to leave for the arts school. It's a bittersweet farewell, but the promise of a future filled with music and understanding fills her with unparalleled happiness and excitement.
The air in Addie’s room felt different, thick with a strange mixture of excitement and a soft, lingering sadness. Sunlight, usually a cheerful splash across her worn rug, seemed to illuminate dust motes dancing with a finality that tugged at her heart. Her suitcase, a sturdy, well-traveled companion, sat open on the bed, a gaping mouth ready to swallow the remnants of her childhood. Addie nodded, a lump forming in her throat. “It is. I… I still can’t quite believe it’s real.” The letter, the acceptance, the scholarship – it all still felt like a dream she might wake from at any moment. The prestigious arts school, a place she’d only dared to whisper about in the quietest corners of her mind, was now a tangible destination.
