An Application of Dreams

With Aunt Clara's help, Addie prepares an application for the arts school. The process is rigorous, but fueled by hope and her rekindled passion, she pours her heart into it.

The crisp autumn air, tinged with the scent of decaying leaves and distant woodsmoke, seemed to carry a special kind of magic this year. It was the magic of possibility, of whispered dreams taking flight, and for Addie, it was the magic of the application. Aunt Clara had found it, tucked away in a glossy brochure that had arrived in the mail, a beacon of hope shining amidst the usual bills and advertisements. The Northwood School of Performing Arts. The words themselves sang to Addie, a melody more beautiful than anything she had ever played.

“Oh, Addie,” Aunt Clara had breathed, her eyes, usually so full of gentle amusement, now alight with a determined glow. She held the brochure out to Addie, her fingers tracing the embossed letters as if they were made of spun gold. “Look at this. Just look.”

Addie’s heart had leaped, a frantic bird trapped in her chest. She’d taken the brochure, her hands trembling slightly. The glossy paper felt cool and smooth beneath her fingertips. The pictures within were vibrant, showcasing students in various stages of artistic expression – a dancer mid-leap, a painter lost in thought before a canvas, and musicians, their faces alight with concentration and joy. And there, nestled amongst the pages, was a section dedicated to vocal and instrumental studies. It was as if the brochure had been created just for her.
