Chapter 10
The Final Assault
The moment of truth arrives. Our forces surge, a wave of determination against the beleaguered city. The fate of empires rests on this final, desperate push.
The air itself seemed to crackle with the anticipation of an age-ending event. For months, the very stones of Constantinople had been subjected to the relentless kiss of our cannons, their thunderous roars a lullaby of impending doom for the beleaguered city. But today, the symphony of war was about to reach its crescendo. Sipahis, their horses pawing the earth impatiently, were a restless sea of cavalry, eager to taste the spoils of victory. Every man, from the lowliest foot soldier to the highest-ranking pasha, understood the weight of this moment. This was not merely a battle; it was the culmination of centuries of yearning, a prophecy whispered down through generations, a destiny I had sworn to fulfill.

They stood defiant, scarred but unbroken, their massive stones whispering tales of past glories and desperate defenses. But I saw not their strength, but their weariness. I saw the cracks, the weaknesses, the wear and tear of relentless bombardment. The great cannons, born of my vision and the ingenuity of my engineers, had done their work, their monstrous mouths spewing fire and fury, chipping away at the city’s pride, inch by agonizing inch.
