The last rays of the sun, like streaks of warm honey, dripped through the tall windows, painting long, dancing shadows across the unfamiliar floorboards. Leo, nestled between Mommy and Daddy on the wide, empty sofa, felt a quiet sort of magic settle over him. The day had been a whirlwind of boxes and new smells, of strange corners and echoing rooms, but now, as twilight deepened, a different feeling began to bloom. It wasn’t the jittery excitement of before, nor the nervous flutter in his tummy. This was a deeper, softer hum, like a secret song only his heart could hear.

“It’s… it’s a bit spooky, isn’t it?” Leo whispered, his voice barely a breath against Mommy’s shoulder. The shadows stretched and twisted, turning familiar shapes into strange, looming figures. He imagined them as friendly giants, perhaps, or maybe shy forest creatures peeking out from behind the curtains. Or, his imagination, always ready with a mischievous spark, wondered if they were the long, thin fingers of the house itself, reaching out to say hello.

Mommy’s arm tightened around him, a warm, steady anchor. “Spooky, maybe a little,” she agreed, her voice as soft as a lullaby. “But look, Leo. Those shadows are just the trees outside playing a game of hide-and-seek with the light. And this house,” she patted his knee gently, “this house is full of adventures waiting for us to find them.” Her eyes, when he looked up, held that knowing sparkle, the one that always made him feel as if she understood the secret language of his thoughts. She remembered, he suspected, the thrill of a new place, the way the air itself seemed to hum with possibility.
