Cozy Corners and New Friends

Leo picks out his favorite stone and finds a cozy nook by the window. The house doesn't feel so strange anymore. It feels like a place full of stories, and he can't wait to add his own with Mommy and Daddy.

Leo’s fingers traced the cool, rough surface of the stone. It was a good stone, a perfect stone, smooth in some places where the river had tumbled it for years, bumpy in others where tiny crystals winked like forgotten stars. He’d found it nestled deep in the overgrown garden, half-hidden beneath a sprawling rhododendron bush that smelled of damp earth and secrets. This stone, he decided, was his first real treasure from their new house. It felt solid and ancient, a promise of enduring things in a place that still felt so… new.

“What have you got there, little explorer?” Daddy’s voice rumbled from the doorway of what was now Leo’s bedroom. The room itself was still a whirlwind of boxes, but a patch of sunlight had found its way through the dusty window, illuminating a small, empty space by the wall.

Leo held up the stone, turning it so the light caught its flecks of mica. “My lucky stone,” he announced, his voice a little shy. He’d been so quiet since they’d arrived, his usual boisterous energy tucked away behind a veil of uncertainty. The house, so grand and mysterious from the outside, had unfolded itself with a quiet, almost hesitant grace. It wasn’t the shadowy, echoing fortress his imagination had conjured, but something softer, more welcoming, even with its peeling wallpaper and the faint scent of old wood.
