The air in the deserted classroom hung thick and heavy, a tangible shroud over the ruins of what had once been an unshakeable bond. Sunlight, usually a cheerful intruder, now slanted through the grimy panes like mournful fingers, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the strained silence. Sushant stood by the chipped blackboard, his knuckles white where he gripped the edge, his gaze fixed on the scuff marks on the linoleum floor as if they held the answers to a question that had no words. Across from him, Sameer’s shoulders were hunched, a posture of defeat that seemed too small for the cavernous space they occupied.

"You really think I’m that… stupid?" Sameer’s voice was a low rasp, devoid of its usual boisterous energy. It sounded like a stranger’s voice, warped by pain and something uglier, something Sushant couldn't quite name but felt curling in his gut.

Sushant finally lifted his eyes, meeting Sameer’s with a weariness that felt older than his years. "I don't think you're stupid, Sameer. I think you're hurting. And when you hurt, you lash out." He swallowed, the words catching in his throat. "But not like this. Not accusing me of… of stealing Maya."
