The world, for Sushant, had been a vibrant tapestry woven with familiar threads: the roar of the crowd at a football match, the comforting weight of Sameer’s arm slung over his shoulder, the quiet hum of anticipation before a school assembly where his voice would inevitably soar. But lately, a new hue had begun to bleed into the edges of his vision, a shade of muted indigo that spoke of depths he hadn't yet plumbed. It was Maya’s colour, he thought, the colour of her smocks dusted with charcoal, the colour of her eyes when they held a secret.

He was tall, with a shock of unruly brown hair and a smile that seemed a little too practiced, a little too… loud. They were talking, heads bent close, and Maya, usually so contained, was laughing. It wasn't her usual shy, almost imperceptible smile. This was a full, unrestrained sound, a melody that seemed to belong to the boy beside her.
