Mary Feeling So Shy
The late afternoon sun cast long, golden shadows across Mary’s backyard, painting the newly finished treehouse in a warm, inviting glow. Laughter, light and bubbly, drifted from its sturdy wooden walls, a testament to the joy it had brought. Mary and Luna, nestled inside, were sharing a plate of freshly baked cookies, their faces flushed with contentment. The air was thick with the sweet scent of pine and the even sweeter scent of their burgeoning friendship.
Suddenly, a different kind of sound pierced their happy bubble – the unmistakable jingle of a bicycle bell. Mary’s heart gave a little flutter. She recognized that sound. It was Leo, her neighbor, a boy with a mop of sandy-blond hair and a perpetually curious grin. Leo was nice, and he often stopped by to see what Mary and Luna were up to. But today, a strange wave of shyness washed over Mary. She hadn't seen Leo in a few days, not since the treehouse was still a jumble of planks and dreams. Now, it was a finished masterpiece, *their* masterpiece.
"Someone's coming," Luna announced, her blue eyes sparkling with anticipation. She nudged Mary playfully. "Maybe it's Leo! He'll love our treehouse!"
