The scent of pine needles and warm sunshine became the everyday perfume of our treehouse. It wasn’t just a structure of wood and nails anymore; it was a breathing, living thing, humming with our secrets and laughter. Every morning, after breakfast, I’d peek out my window, and more often than not, Luna would already be there, perched on the bottom rung of the ladder, her long brown hair catching the light like spun caramel. A quick nod from her, a thumbs-up from me, and the day officially began.
Our tea party had been just the beginning. The little plastic cups and saucers stayed up there, tucked into a small wooden crate we nailed to one of the walls. Sometimes, we’d have imaginary guests: a grumpy bear who only liked honey tea, or a very proper squirrel who insisted on biscuits. Other times, it was just us, sipping air from our empty cups, making up stories about the clouds drifting by.
“That one looks like a giant rabbit chasing a carrot,” Luna would say, pointing a slender finger towards the sky.
