The Grand Treehouse Unveiling

With renewed teamwork and a little help from Mary's dad, the treehouse is finally complete! Mary and Luna celebrate their achievement with a special tea party inside, marveling at their creation and the strong bond it represents.

The late afternoon sun, a buttery yellow, cast long, dancing shadows across the backyard. Dust motes, like tiny golden fairies, pirouetted in the air, illuminated by the slanting light. The air smelled of freshly cut wood, damp earth, and the sweet, almost sugary scent of honeysuckle from the fence. My hands, still grimy with sawdust despite several washes, itched with anticipation. Luna, her usually neat brown hair now escaping its braid in wisps around her flushed cheeks, bounced on the balls of her feet next to me. Her blue eyes, wide and sparkling, kept darting to the magnificent structure before us.

It was finished. Truly, gloriously, utterly finished.

The treehouse stood like a sturdy, wooden jewel nestled in the crook of the old oak. Its walls, painted a cheerful robin’s-egg blue, gleamed in the sunlight. The small, square window, painstakingly fitted by Dad, looked out over the entire yard, promising endless views of our adventures. The little porch, a last-minute addition from Luna, was just big enough for two small chairs, or maybe a sprawling blanket. The roof, a surprisingly elegant pitch of dark green shingles, made it look like a miniature, enchanted cottage suspended in the branches.
