The air in my studio, usually buzzing with the hum of possibility and the scent of fine fabrics, felt thick with a quiet sort of despair. Chapter 10 had ended with a glimmer of hope, a gentle nudge from Snowy’s silent wisdom, but now, as I stared at the bolts of silk and the half-finished sketches scattered across my cutting table, the inspiration that had once flowed so effortlessly seemed to have dried up. It was as if a fog had rolled in, obscuring the vibrant colors and elegant lines that usually danced in my mind’s eye. My fingers, usually so eager to trace a new silhouette or pin a daring dart, felt heavy and useless.
Mickey, sensing my mood, nudged his wet nose against my knee, his tail giving a tentative thump against the floorboards. I knelt and buried my face in his soft, warm fur, letting out a sigh that felt too big for my chest. "Oh, Mickey," I murmured, "what am I going to do? It’s like all the ideas have just… flown away." He whined softly, his big brown eyes full of concern.
Starry, perched on the arm of a nearby armchair, batted playfully at a stray thread dangling from a mannequin, her blue eyes bright with her usual curiosity. Even her innocent games couldn’t quite pierce the gloom that had settled over me. Snowy, ever the elegant observer, sat near the window, her white fur a stark contrast to the darkening sky outside, her gaze fixed on me with an unnerving stillness. She seemed to understand the weight of my silence, the unspoken frustration that coiled in my gut.
