"This is where the real detective work happens, Anya!" she declared, her voice a bright whisper that didn't disturb the hushed atmosphere.
Anya nodded, her gaze sweeping over the rows of books. It was so different from the library back home, where the books smelled of new ink and the silence was often broken by the rustle of pages or the soft hum of computers. Here, it felt like stepping back in time, each book a portal to the past. Grandmother Elena’s stories, filled with faded photographs and whispered names, had ignited a spark of curiosity in Anya, a yearning to understand this hidden part of herself. And now, with Lily by her side, that spark was beginning to glow.
They spent the morning poring over thick, leather-bound books filled with parish records, census data, and local histories. Anya carefully copied names and dates into her notebook, her brow furrowed in concentration. Lily, ever the enthusiastic helper, would occasionally gasp in delight or point out an interesting tidbit. "Look, Anya! This family, the Smythes, lived right here in this village over two hundred years ago. Do you think...?"
