Farewell to England

The time comes for Anya to return home. She shares heartfelt goodbyes with Lily and Mr. Abernathy, promising to stay in touch and cherishing the memories made.

The last rays of the English sun, softened by a gentle haze, cast long, warm shadows across the cobbled lane. Anya stood by the gate, her suitcase resting beside her feet, a strange mixture of sadness and a quiet, resolute joy bubbling in her chest. It was time to go home. The air, usually so crisp and new, now held the familiar scent of damp earth and blooming roses, a fragrance that had become as much a part of her as the locket she wore around her neck.

Lily stood next to her, her bright eyes, usually so full of mischief, now held a hint of a shimmer. She clutched a small, brightly wrapped package. "I can't believe you're leaving, Anya," she said, her voice a little softer than usual. "It feels like we only just met, and now… now you have to go back to your own world."

Anya smiled, a genuine, unforced smile that reached her eyes. "I know. It's been… it's been more than I ever imagined, Lily. Thank you. For everything." She gestured vaguely, encompassing the whole of her adventure. Lily had been her anchor, her guide, her first true friend in this land that had once felt so foreign. She had patiently explained the nuances of queuing, the subtle art of tea-drinking, and the bewildering array of bus routes. More importantly, Lily had simply *liked* Anya, not just the Anya who was discovering her roots, but Anya, the girl.
