The scent of freshly baked scones, warm and sweet, filled Anya’s senses, a comforting aroma that seemed to chase away the last lingering shadows of her shyness. She found herself leaning forward, a genuine smile gracing her lips as Lily recounted a particularly amusing story about a runaway dog and a very surprised baker. It wasn’t so long ago that Anya would have been content to simply listen, her eyes wide and her voice a mere whisper. But now, a new spark ignited within her, a quiet confidence that encouraged her to join the conversation.

“That reminds me,” Anya began, her voice steady, “when I was little, my cat managed to climb all the way to the top of the tallest oak tree in our garden. We couldn’t get her down for hours!” She giggled, a sound that felt surprisingly natural and free. Lily’s eyes lit up, and she leaned in, eager to hear more.

“Oh, tell me about it!” Lily exclaimed, her enthusiasm infectious. “What was her name? Was she scared?”
