The Echoing Caves
Luna and Xylo venture into caves that amplify every sound, making stealth impossible. They must tread carefully, avoiding slumbering beasts and the watchful eyes of more dangerous demons lurking in the darkness.
The air in the Echoing Caves was thick, not with moisture, but with an oppressive silence that seemed to press in on Luna's eardrums. It was a silence that felt pregnant with anticipation, as if the very rock itself was holding its breath. Xylo, his usual scowl deepened by the claustrophobic gloom, gestured for Luna to follow, his movements unnervingly fluid in the dim light that filtered from some unseen source.
"These caves," Xylo rasped, his voice barely a whisper, yet it seemed to boom unnervingly, "they remember. Every footfall, every sigh, every whispered fear. Sound here is a weapon, child. Or a shroud."
Luna swallowed, her throat suddenly dry. She understood immediately. The slightest scrape of her boot against the uneven stone, the rustle of her worn tunic, even the frantic thumping of her own heart – it would all be magnified, broadcast to every hidden corner of this subterranean world. Stealth, a skill she had been slowly, painstakingly acquiring, was now utterly impossible.
