Luna’s heart hammered a frantic rhythm against her ribs, a drumbeat of pure terror. Grolok loomed, a mountain of obsidian scales and burning emerald eyes, his shadow eclipsing the meager light that dared to penetrate this desolate chamber. Brute force, she knew with a chilling certainty, was not the answer. She was a child, small and fragile, facing a demon whose very presence seemed to warp the air with ancient malice. Her tiny hands balled into fists, not in a gesture of defiance, but of desperate calculation.

Whisperwing’s riddle, a string of nonsensical syllables that had echoed in her mind since their fleeting encounter, suddenly felt less like a taunt and more like a key. *“Where shadows lengthen, truths take flight, and pride’s own echo blinds the sight.”* And Xylo’s words, so often a jumble of cynicism and veiled warnings, now resonated with a new clarity. “He guards what he cherishes, child. And what he cherishes most is his own reflection.”

Reflection. Pride. Shadows. The pieces began to click into place, a dangerous, exhilarating puzzle forming in Luna’s young mind.
