The air hung thick with the scent of salt, damp earth, and something acrid, something that spoke of splintered wood and broken dreams. Lumu moved through the makeshift encampments, his massive frame a stark contrast against the huddled figures seeking solace under hastily erected shelters. Each step was deliberate, each glance a search for a flicker of hope in eyes clouded with shock and loss. The storm, a brutal, indiscriminate force, had swept through Kalagi, leaving behind a tapestry of devastation that stretched as far as the eye could see.

His hands, accustomed to the weight of papers and the firm clasp of a handshake, were now stained with grime, calloused from the relentless work of assisting the islanders. He knelt beside an elderly woman, her face etched with a sorrow that seemed to go beyond the present ruin. Her small fishing boat, her livelihood, was now a collection of jagged splinters scattered along the shore. Lumu didn't offer platitudes. Instead, he simply sat with her, his immense presence a quiet anchor, and listened as her voice, a fragile whisper, recounted the fury of the waves that had claimed her life’s work. He spoke of rebuilding, of pooled resources, of the island’s inherent resilience, not as empty promises, but as a shared commitment.

Later, he found Kael, his loyal friend, his face grim, directing a team clearing a path through a tangle of fallen trees that had blocked access to the main village. Kael’s usual jovial spirit was subdued, his eyes holding a pain Lumu recognized. Kael had lost his home, his family’s ancestral dwelling, to the storm’s relentless onslaught. Yet, he worked with a fierce determination, his movements sharp and efficient, his voice firm as he guided the volunteers.
