The small rented home, once a sanctuary of whispered promises and stolen kisses, had begun to feel suffocating. The initial euphoria of their secret marriage, the intoxicating bliss of having each other all to themselves, had started to wane, replaced by the persistent hum of reality. Sesha, accustomed to the effortless abundance of her childhood, found the daily grind of managing their meager finances a constant source of anxiety. Charan, driven by his unwavering desire to provide, worked tirelessly, his days stretching from dawn till late into the night. The small room he shared with three other boys before felt palatial compared to the cramped confines of their shared life, a life that was proving more challenging than either of them had anticipated.

The air in their tiny apartment grew heavy with unspoken anxieties. Small disagreements, once easily smoothed over with a shared smile or a tender touch, now festered, growing into irritations that pricked at their new-found peace. Sesha, her heart already heavy with the guilt of defying her parents and the gnawing fear of abandonment, found herself increasingly susceptible to worry. Every late return from Charan’s work, every unanswered call, chipped away at her fragile sense of security.

Dangerously late. The usual excuses – traffic, a difficult fare – felt hollow against the growing dread coiling in her stomach. She paced the small living room, her hands clasped tightly, her mind conjuring a thousand scenarios, each more painful than the last. Had he forgotten her? Was he with someone else? The seeds of doubt, so carefully sown by her upbringing and her inherent insecurities, began to sprout with alarming speed.
