Sesha confronts Charan, demanding an explanation. He calmly reveals his identity as her husband and alludes to their past, leaving Sesha stunned and conflicted.
The polished mahogany desk seemed to gleam under the fluorescent lights, a stark contrast to the knot of anxiety tightening in Sesha’s chest. She stood before it, her hands clasped so tightly her knuckles were white, her gaze fixed on the man seated behind it. Charan. But not the Charan she knew, the one who drove a taxi with a hopeful glint in his eyes, the one who had promised her the world on a shoestring budget. This Charan was different. This Charan was Mr. Charan, the Managing Director, his suit impeccable, his demeanor a cool, professional mask.
He had spoken to everyone else with a polite efficiency, his voice smooth and measured. But when he’d called her into his office, the air had shifted. The casual professionalism had been replaced by a knowing smirk, a subtle shift in his posture that spoke volumes to Sesha alone. His words, too, had been laced with a double meaning, a private joke that only they could understand. It was a language of shared history, of unspoken pain, and it had landed like a physical blow.
“Who are you,” Sesha’s voice, though meant to be firm, trembled slightly, “to talk to me like that?” She demanded, her voice a fragile echo in the cavernous office. The question hung in the air, a desperate plea for clarity, for a return to some semblance of normalcy, or perhaps, a desperate hope that he would deny any connection, any shared past.
