A Sparkly Predicament
The city is now a shimmering spectacle. Citizens are finding glitter everywhere, from their morning coffee to their pets. Elara feels the weight of her chaotic creation and the mayor's fury.
The city, once a familiar tapestry of muted greys and greens, now shimmered with an unnatural, almost aggressive, brilliance. It was as if a thousand disco balls had simultaneously exploded, their shattered fragments clinging to every surface. Elara, peering through the warped glass of her bakery window, felt a prickle of something akin to pride, quickly followed by a tidal wave of sheer, unadulterated panic. Her sourdough starter, her grandmother’s ancient, revered, *non-sparkly* sourdough starter, had… well, it had gone rogue, thanks to a vial of Dr. Sparkle’s experimental, highly volatile glitter.
Glitter. In the sourdough. It sounded like a punchline to a joke that had gone horribly, hilariously wrong. And the punchline, it seemed, was now the entire city.
Little Timmy Higgins, usually a beacon of sticky-fingered innocence, was currently being pulled along by his mother, his entire head and shoulders a shimmering halo of iridescent blue. His golden retriever, Bartholomew, trotted beside them, his fur a spectacle of swirling pink and silver, looking utterly bewildered. Across the street, Mrs. Gable, the notoriously prim and proper librarian, was attempting to dust her prize-winning petunias with a feather duster that now seemed to be permanently embedded with a fine layer of gold. Even the pigeons, bless their usually drab little hearts, had taken on a certain je ne sais quoi, their grey feathers now dappled with emerald and amethyst.
