Chapter 19: A Sweet Resolution

The air in Sunny Meadow was, for the first time in what felt like an eternity, blessedly free of twinkling particles. The streets that had once shimmered like a fallen constellation were now just… streets. The townspeople, having scrubbed themselves and their belongings within an inch of their lives, were slowly emerging from their homes, blinking in the non-sparkly sunlight. Elara, perched on a stool behind her counter, felt a wave of relief so profound it threatened to knock her off her feet. Her bakery, ‘Elara’s Edible Eccentrics,’ was still standing, miraculously devoid of any residual shimmer, save for a single, stubborn speck on the tip of her nose that she’d been trying to dislodge for the past hour.

Mayor Grumbleson, surprisingly, was there. He stood by the door, his arms crossed, his usual frown etched deeper into his face, but there was something different about it. It was less a scowl of pure fury and more… a contemplative grimace. He’d overseen the final, massive glitter-heist operation from the town square, a feat that had involved Elara’s hastily assembled, glitter-vacuuming contraptions and a rather enthusiastic troupe of synchronized dancers (who had, incidentally, been hired for the town’s annual Founder’s Day parade, now postponed indefinitely).
