Dr. Sparkle, undeterred by the glitter incident, is already eyeing their next experiment. Elara can only hope it doesn't involve explosive confectioneries.
The lingering shimmer on the town’s cobblestones was less a testament to a successful resolution and more a subtle, persistent reminder of the chaos that had, thankfully, been contained. Elara, still smelling faintly of sugar and regret, surveyed her bakery. The “Elara’s Edible Elegance” sign now sported a faint, almost imperceptible sparkle, a residual echo of the glitter-pocalypse. It was a badge of honor, perhaps, but also a stark warning. She’d learned her lesson. Or, at least, she *hoped* she’d learned her lesson.
A cheerful chime announced the arrival of a customer, and Elara’s heart did a little flutter-kick. It wasn’t Mayor Grumbleson, thank goodness. He’d been surprisingly… pleasant. Almost suspiciously pleasant. He’d even hummed a jaunty tune while inspecting the final, disco-ball cake, a tune that bore a striking resemblance to a polka Elara vaguely remembered from a childhood fair. But that was a thought for another day. Today, she needed to focus on the present, on rebuilding her reputation, one non-exploding pastry at a time.
The customer, however, was not a customer at all. It was Dr. Sparkle, who bounced into the bakery with the unrestrained enthusiasm of a child who’d just discovered a new shade of purple. They wore a lab coat that shimmered with an iridescent sheen, a stark contrast to Elara’s flour-dusted apron.
