The door creaked open at her hesitant knock, revealing Arthur himself, his kind eyes creased with a gentle inquiry. He was a man of unassuming stature, his tweed suit perpetually rumpled, but his gaze held a depth that belied his outward simplicity. "Eleanor, my dear! What brings you out on such a night?" His voice was a warm balm, a stark contrast to the icy fear that had been her constant companion.

She stepped inside, the scent of old paper and ink enveloping her. "Arthur, I… I need your help. A grave matter." Her voice trembled, betraying the carefully constructed composure she had striven for.
