The city lights outside the penthouse window were a distant, muted hum, a stark contrast to the quiet symphony of breathing that filled our bedroom. Kiara slept beside me, her face soft and serene in the dim glow of the bedside lamp. Her hand rested on my chest, a familiar, comforting weight. She was the reason I fought so hard, the reason I built this life, this sanctuary, for us.
