The sterile scent of the hospital clung to Kiara’s skin, a stark contrast to the overwhelming sweetness of new life. Twin cries, delicate yet insistent, filled the room, a symphony that had finally silenced the echoes of her past. Milano, his face etched with a tender exhaustion she’d never thought possible, held one of their daughters, his gaze lost in the miracle of her tiny features. The other, nestled against Kiara’s chest, stirred and let out a soft sigh, her fingers already seeking a familiar warmth.
“They’re beautiful, Kiara,” Milano murmured, his voice rough with emotion. He carefully transferred his daughter to the waiting bassinet, his movements surprisingly gentle for a man forged in a world of sharp edges. “Absolutely perfect.”
Kiara smiled, a deep, soul-settling contentment washing over her. The pain of childbirth, the fear that had gnawed at her for months, the lingering tension from their arguments – it all faded into insignificance. “They are,” she agreed, her voice a whisper. “Our girls.”
