The humid Bangkok air, usually a balm on Milano’s skin, felt heavy, charged with an unseen tension. He sat in the shadowed corner of a bustling night market, the scent of grilled skewers and exotic spices doing little to calm the unease coiling in his gut. His phone buzzed, a coded message from one of his most trusted informants. The characters, stark and urgent, danced before his eyes, each one a prickle of alarm. Kiara. The Rehab family. Thailand. His jaw tightened, the casual charm he usually wore like a second skin vanishing to reveal the steely resolve beneath. He finished his lukewarm tea, the ceramic cup cool against his palm. The market’s vibrant chaos, the laughter of tourists, the calls of vendors – it all faded into a dull roar. His world, so often dictated by the brutal logic of his family’s business, suddenly narrowed to a single, all-consuming focus: Kiara.
