The weight of his family’s gentle encouragement settled around Gerald like a warm cloak. Today felt different. The air itself seemed to hum with a possibility that had been absent before. He was arranging a display of polished wooden toys outside his father’s shop, his movements a little more deliberate than usual, his gaze often drifting towards the corner where the cobblestone path curved. His father, sensing the shift in his son, leaned against the doorframe, a knowing glint in his eyes.

“Thinking of a particular customer, Gerald?” his father asked, his voice a low rumble that held no judgment, only warmth.
