"Grampa! Grampa!"

Leo’s voice, a tiny trumpet of urgency, pierced the quiet hum of the afternoon. He scrambled down the hallway, his bare feet slapping against the polished wood, a blur of bright blue pajamas. He skidded to a halt in the doorway of the den, where Grampa was engrossed in a crossword puzzle, his brow furrowed in concentration.

"What is it, sprout?" Grampa asked, not looking up from his paper. He had a way of knowing Leo was there without even seeing him.
