It wasn’t just a tune; it was a question, a beckoning, a soft tug on a forgotten corner of her heart. She found herself humming it unconsciously, a soft, breathy sound that felt alien yet familiar. The faded wallpaper in her apartment, usually a dull canvas of resignation, seemed to absorb the melody, its patterns swirling with a new, subtle energy. Even the worn wool of her favorite sweater felt less like a shroud and more like a comforting, albeit gray, embrace.

One afternoon, the melody led her. It wasn’t a conscious decision, more of an irresistible pull, like a river current guiding a fallen leaf. She found herself on the edge of town, where the neatly trimmed hedges of the suburbs gave way to a riot of untamed green. The air here was different, thick with the scent of damp earth and something else… something sweet and wild. The melody intensified, a siren song in the rustling leaves and chirping birds. And then she saw it.

It wasn’t a gate, not really. More like an opening in the very air, a shimmer of emerald light that pulsed with the rhythm of the tune. Hesitantly, Eliza pushed aside a curtain of ivy, her heart thrumming a frantic counterpoint to the melody. She stepped through, and the world, as she knew it, dissolved.
