The air outside was a shock, a physical blow that stole my breath and sent a tremor through my very bones. It was nothing like the filtered, recycled atmosphere of the City, a constant, controlled hum of sameness. This was wild, untamed, a symphony of scents and sensations that flooded my senses, overwhelming and exhilarating all at once. The sky, a canvas of bruised purples and fiery oranges as the twin suns dipped below an unseen horizon, was vast, impossibly so, stretching further than my mind could comprehend. It was a freedom so profound, so absolute, that it felt like a physical ache, a tearing away from the suffocating embrace of the System.
Beside me, Anya’s presence was a grounding force. She moved with a quiet efficiency, her eyes scanning the alien landscape, her body a coiled spring of readiness. The rough, unyielding terrain under my feet was a stark contrast to the polished, uniform surfaces I had known. Every step was a negotiation, a discovery. I stumbled, catching myself on a gnarled, unfamiliar plant that felt alive beneath my fingers, not the sterile, synthesized flora of the City. There was a rawness to it, a vibrant, chaotic energy that pulsed through everything.
"Breathe, Kaelen," Anya said, her voice a low rumble against the rising wind. "It’s a lot, I know. But it’s real."
