Current Events Through Raheel's Lens

The world, bless its cotton socks, is a bewildering place. One minute you’re trying to figure out why your toast is burning on one side and still anaemic on the other, and the next you’re being bombarded with news that makes that toast situation seem positively serene. I’ve always been a bit of a late adopter, a digital dinosaur trying to navigate a world that’s gone from dial-up to hyperdrive while I was busy trying to remember where I put my keys. So, when it comes to current events, my perspective is less a sharp, incisive analysis and more a wide-eyed, slightly confused “Huh?” followed by a hopeful shrug.

Take, for instance, the whole cryptocurrency craze. I remember my Quirky Friend trying to explain it to me. They’d drawn a diagram on a napkin that looked like a spaghetti junction having a nervous breakdown. “So,” they’d said, their eyes gleaming with the fervor of a true believer, “it’s like digital money, but it’s not controlled by banks, and it’s all on this… blockchain thingy.”

I’d nodded slowly, trying to project an air of deep understanding. “Right. So, it’s like… invisible money that lives in the internet clouds?”
