The fluorescent lights of "Shear Delight" hummed a tune that, in retrospect, sounded suspiciously like a dirge. I’d walked in seeking a trim, a simple refresh to my perpetually windswept mop. What I walked out with was a monument to questionable decisions, a harbinger of the impending existential dread that would soon engulf my very being. The stylist, a woman named Brenda whose enthusiasm for her craft seemed to have been surgically removed years ago, had taken my request for "just a little off the top" and interpreted it as a divine mandate to sculpt. I had a job that paid the bills, a social life that was… present, and I’d even managed to avoid any major public scandals since the unfortunate incident involving the rogue pigeon and my uncle’s prize-winning petunias. Yet, beneath the veneer of normalcy, a nagging question had been growing: *“Is this it? Is this all there is?”*
