The Dawn of Reality
Elara opens her eyes to the familiar light of her room. The game is over. She's free, changed, and ready to face the real world.
Elara’s eyelids fluttered, heavy as if coated in digital dust. A soft, warm light, unlike the harsh, pixelated glow of the game, seeped through them. A sigh, deep and shaky, escaped her lips. It wasn’t the triumphant exhale of victory, but the quiet release of a breath held for far too long. She felt the familiar weight of her favorite worn blanket, the comforting slight dip of her mattress beneath her. This was real. This was her room.
Slowly, tentatively, she opened her eyes. The ceiling fan, a comforting presence she’d almost forgotten, spun lazily above. Sunlight streamed through the gap in her curtains, painting golden stripes across her floral duvet. The faint scent of her mother’s baking – cinnamon and something vaguely fruity – drifted from downstairs. It was a symphony of the mundane, a melody so sweet it brought a fresh wave of tears to her eyes.
The game was over.
