She moved through the glittering throng not like a moth drawn to a flame, but like a swan gliding across a moonlit lake, her presence a quiet, undeniable grace that drew the eye without demanding it. Tonight, she wore a gown the colour of twilight, a deep, shifting indigo that seemed to absorb the light and then release it in soft, luminous waves. Her hair, usually a cascade of spun gold, was swept up in an intricate knot, adorned with a single sprig of moonflowers, their pale petals a stark, beautiful contrast against the midnight hue of her coiffure. My fingers, stained with ink, trembled slightly as I imagined tracing the delicate curve of her neck, the place where the moonlight seemed to kiss her skin.

She was speaking with Lady Ashworth, her head tilted slightly, a gentle smile gracing her lips. Even from this distance, I could discern the genuine warmth in her expression, the earnestness with which she listened. It was not the brittle, performative politeness that so often permeated these gatherings; it was a deeper, more resonant kindness. She possessed a rare gift for making even the most mundane exchange feel significant, as if the very air around her was imbued with a softer, more compassionate light.
