The city, a sprawling tapestry of chrome and glass, hummed with a manufactured calm. Beneath the polished surface, however, a fever had begun to simmer. It started with whispers, then grew into a murmur, and now, a palpable unease rippled through the plazas and transit tubes. The news feeds, usually a soothing balm of curated realities, flickered with an unsettling intensity. A familiar injustice, cloaked in the guise of progress, had reared its head.
