Chapter 6
A Little Experiment
Nishane decides to try giving his wilting flower some water. He carefully waters the soil, his heart full of anticipation. Will this be the answer?
Nishane tiptoed back to the little pot on the windowsill, his heart thumping a quiet rhythm against his ribs. The wilting flower, once so proud and vibrant with its tiny red petals, now drooped sadly, its leaves curled like little fists. He’d spent so long looking at it, his brow furrowed with a puzzle he couldn’t quite solve. He remembered Ammi’s words, soft as the rustle of leaves, “Nishane, my little explorer, the world is full of answers, you just have to look for them.” And Professor Owl, with his blinking eyes and deep, rumbling voice, had hooted, “Observation is the first step, little one, but sometimes, action is the key that unlocks understanding.”
Action. Nishane’s gaze fell on the small watering can resting beside the pot. It was full of cool, clear water, a gift from Ammi after his morning chores. He had been so focused on *why* the flower was wilting, on the mystery of its fading life, that he hadn’t thought about a simple, practical solution. A tiny seed of an idea, planted by Professor Owl’s wisdom, began to sprout in his mind. What if… what if the flower was just thirsty?
He picked up the watering can, its weight surprising and yet comforting in his small hands. He had to be careful, Ammi always said, “Gentle hands for gentle things.” He knelt beside the windowsill, bringing his face close to the pot. The soil looked dry, a dusty brown, and it seemed to sigh a little as he leaned in. Nishane took a deep breath, the scent of dry earth and faint floral notes filling his nose.
