The False Confession
Convinced they've cornered their quarry, Rene and Deon orchestrate an elaborate interrogation. The target, however, merely plays along with their delusions, leading to an uproarious, unintentional confession.
The abandoned Laundromat reeked of mildew, stale cigarette smoke, and the faint, metallic tang of fear—mostly Rene’s, but it was a good atmosphere for an interrogation. The single functioning fluorescent strip above flickered with the manic energy of a trapped moth, casting long, stuttering shadows that Rene interpreted as surveillance drones recalibrating their focus.
"Speak, weasel!" Rene hissed, her voice tight. She was crouched low, gripping the rusty end of a mop handle like it was a medieval executioner’s axe. Her denim jacket, perpetually too large, seemed to swallow her thin frame. Her dreadlocks, usually wild and free, were pulled back severely, making her eyes look even wider, more luminous with manic focus.
Deon stood guard by the only door, wearing a construction hard hat that was clearly three sizes too small and balanced precariously over his ski mask. He held a spatula—a large, flat one, perfect for flipping pancakes or, in this crucial moment, ‘flipping’ the script on a suspect.
