The hum of the *Stardust Drifter* had become a familiar lullaby, a constant thrum beneath Anya’s skin that was almost as comforting as the silence of her own thoughts. Almost. The silence, of course, was never truly hers; it was merely the absence of the echoes, the spectral whispers of what had been. Leo, ever restless, was hunched over the navigation console, his brow furrowed in concentration, tracing lines on a holographic projection of the star chart. The fragmented map, painstakingly pieced together from Anya’s historical texts and Leo’s salvaged scraps, pulsed with an ethereal light, its final, enigmatic segments finally aligning.

“It’s… it’s not a place,” Anya murmured, her voice barely a breath as she leaned closer, her fingers brushing against the cool projection. The symbols, once interpreted as geographical markers, now seemed to shift, to reconfigure themselves into something far more abstract, more profound. “The energy readings, the gravitational anomalies… they’re not pointing to a physical location. They’re describing a presence.”

Leo grunted, not looking up. His hands, calloused from years of manipulating derelict machinery, moved with an almost surgical precision over the controls. “A presence? What kind of presence? A ghost? A particularly grumpy nebula?”
