The hum of the ship’s engines was a familiar lullaby to Leo, a constant companion in the vast emptiness of space. He ran a gloved hand over the cool, metallic console, the worn surfaces a testament to countless journeys, countless scrapes. This one, however, felt different. The fragmented map, a ghost of data salvaged from a derelict probe, pulsed with a promise that both thrilled and terrified him. La VID. The name itself tasted like stardust and ancient secrets. Anya, perched beside him, her brow furrowed in concentration as she cross-referenced celestial charts with the cryptic fragments, seemed to share his unease, though hers was laced with a historian’s insatiable curiosity.
“Anything?” Leo asked, his voice a low rumble against the ship’s ambient noise.
Anya sighed, pushing a strand of dark hair from her eyes. “It’s like trying to piece together a shattered mirror with only half the shards. The stellar alignments are… peculiar. They don’t quite match any known navigational patterns.” She tapped a glowing projection. “And this symbol here, it appears in multiple ancient texts I’ve studied, always associated with immense power, but never with a specific location. It’s almost as if it’s meant to be… elusive.”
