Chapter 4
Elena's Gaze
Daniel seeks out Elena, the village elder. She looks at the key with a knowing, fearful expression, offering cryptic warnings about disturbing ancient things best left forgotten.

The interior was dim, lit by a single oil lamp that cast dancing shadows across shelves crammed with dried herbs, strange artifacts, and stacks of brittle, leather-bound books. The scent of woodsmoke, mingled with something else – something earthy and ancient, like damp soil and forgotten spices – filled the air. Elena sat by the hearth, her back to me, her silhouette sharp against the flickering flames. Her hands, gnarled like the roots of an old oak, were clasped in her lap.
